Police force risk management transformed by simplicity and adaptability of Hitec’s Ten Risk Manager

Both South Yorkshire Police and Humberside Police have selected the software because of its ability to automate processes and provide a consistent, up-to-date and centralised view of risks.

For South Yorkshire Police, risk registers holding large amounts of valuable information had been contained in spreadsheets. This approach had over time become increasingly unwieldy, was complicating the tracking of risk movements, and meant even standard report production was becoming ever more time-consuming.

We can now print up-to-date risk profiles at any time, and the overall consistency of the information means we’re able to make decisions better and faster.”

A similar picture has been emerging at Humberside Police. A process dependent on Word documents meant they struggled to achieve a view of all risks in a single location, while report generation was becoming a labour-intensive and longwinded activity.

“From the start our approach has been to follow the Guidelines for Practitioners for the Management of Risk from the Office of Government Commerce,” said Steve Page, Risk Manager at Humberside Police. “This is where we see Ten Risk Manager helping us considerably. A key reason why we selected Ten was that it could be easily adapted to meet our processes, unlike other offerings which seemed to require us to change our processes to fit the system.”

Another benefit for both Humberside and South Yorkshire in using Ten is that they have entered into an agreement to share services and ideas to achieve even more efficiencies across the region.
